On staying or living in Portugal, advice can be found on many expat forums. One I found informative is Expat Exchange. Also, found in International Living, the website Numbeo has a global cost-of-living guide which is very helpful when looking for a place to settle. On the healthcare side, for 2021 the WHO ranks Portugal #12 in its world ranking of the quality of healthcare (by comparison Canada is ranked 30th and the U.S. 37th).
Accommodations for short and medium term stays can be found at Expat.com.
